Which vehicles are the top trade-ins under the "cash for clunkers" incentive? You guessed it: large, American-made trucks and SUVs.
According to multiple sources including auto dealerships participating in the program and online car buying sites, Ford SUVs and trucks top the list, while upwards of 70% are similar Detroit-made vehicles. According to Autobytel, the list goes something like this:

An Acura dealership in Woodside, N.Y., finds About 70% of the trade-ins are vehicles built by Detroit's Big 3 and 75% were SUVs, pickups or minivans. Hyundai's U.S. CEO John Krafcik also said a week ago that Fords were the top brand showing up as early clunker trade-ins, especially old Explorer SUVs.
