Not much coming off the bottom of the Detroit River surprises the Detroit Police Department’s dive team.
As part of “Operation Rescue,” the group -- with the help of a tow truck with a boom -- began hoisting sunken vehicles today from the river’s blue waves during two days of diving. Sonar maps like babies’ ultrasounds show the outlines of 15 vehicles ditched into the river from vacant Detroit Water & Sewer Department property on West Jefferson near Junction.
(Details) Cars don't just "end up on the bottom of the Detroit River" if you know what we mean, let alone next to some abandoned property, and this discovery is generating some police interest. Maybe it was just teen hoons stealing junkers cars for late night chickie runs over the years that led to this, or more likely, a combination of illegal dumping, insurance fraud and perhaps even homicide. Once they pull all of them out of the water, they'll have a chance at figuring some of it out. )
