2010 Honda Insight VS Prius... Err, CRX

Over 20 years ago, Honda introduced to the U.S.  an iconic little car with an EPA rating of 49/54 mpg (40/48 mpg adjusted to today's procedures). Honda's current Insight with all its technology, however, can't muster the same figures as the little CRX. What gives?
