5,000 licensed drivers were nationally surveyed by GMAC Insurance to re-answer DMW driver's license test questions, and 20 percent failed. On average, the drivers surveyed scored a 75% , or C letter grade.
Idaho and Wisconsin had the top U.S. drivers, with a B average. New Jersey and Hawaii placed last place with the poorest scores (cue common Jersey driver insults).
Questions dealing with yellow signal lights and distance rules were what threw most for a loop. Drivers aged 35 and older had the highest passing rate, while the youngster 18 to 25 year-olds, the opposite. Slightly more men passed than woman
