In an ironic twist (or maybe not, since Renault is a French-made car), China recently stopped the import of various Renault cars by claiming them bad unsafe.

Xinhua reports the Laguna Ph2, Scenic/Long Scenic, Megane Ph2 and Megane Ph2 Coupe-Cabriolet are the models in question.

China's quality watchdog claims Renault didn't report various problems and didn't issue recalls for the aforementioned cars like they did in other markets they sold them in. China though, has very lax safety standards and laws when compared to the NHTSA and the like.

The recalls, for the Megane at least, have to do with the transmission though details are scarce and we're not sure how exactly. From all we know, it could be a major problem. By the way, we're not bagging on the French, but we just had to put that in there. In fact, we could bag on all European cars if we wanted to, but we still love 'em.
