"Yes, it's got a HEMI..." And no, this old-school Roller isn't a failed porn star's interpretation of the word 'pimp' either, that's for sure.
More like hot rod builder, Joe Richardson's. But that's not saying it's bad. Quite the opposite in fact. This 1970 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow is hands-down one of the craziest (and most 'pimp', if you're one to use the term) SEMA creations we have seen this year -- in a goodhearted and wholesome way.
The 'Rolls sports a fuel-injected 572-cubic-inch Chrysler Hemi that twists its crank with two power adders: a nitrous-oxide system and a BDS 671-style supercharger. Mr. Richardson, who owns Little Joe’s Street Rod Shop, dynoed the Hemi’s horsepower at 1,350.
Mr. Richardson went on to add that with the horsepower and chassis modifications, he estimates that a full-force quarter-mile run would end with a time in the nine-second range.
After you manually push your jaw up and get over the spit-shined Hemi V8 engine bay and slammed air suspension all sitting on large-diameter chrome wheels, take a look inside. The craftsmanship is as top-notch as the rest, but well-restrained. Clean, classy lines abound. There is probably more leather upholstery in there now than originally came from the factory in Crewe, England in 1970 (even the rollcage is wrapped and stitched with it), but it's all good.
We're not sure if we'd dare brave the unkind L.A. freeway system in it or risk spinning the earth on its axis the wrong way with all 1,350 horses unleashed, but it sure is badass and we wouldn't have minded slapping some funny money down on the table at SEMA for it.
