The much anticipated Chevy Volt seems to be ahead of schedule in testing and the production process, but is Toyota advancing faster than GM?

GM had a recent interview where it gave us the good news that the Chevy Volt project is coming to us earlier than we thought as testing is coming successful and they are moving faster than anticipated. At the same time, GM's Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, states that Toyota and GM are not in a race as Toyota also has a plug in process that might come out before the Chevy Volt.

Lutz says he expects Toyota's plug-in will debut in controlled fleets and not in large numbers. He says GM will have production versions of the Volt working in a large test fleet in late 2009.
