Why I Love My 2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid

I came across this blog about a car enthusiast who love his hybrid car and here's some of his details.

Author Jay Todd is a satisfied hybrid car owner and here's a couple points he's noticed during his ownwership of his hybrid:

In September of 2007, I bought a Toyota Camry Hybrid. It was most definitely the best car buying decision I ever made. At the time that I bought my hybrid, I was concerned about gas prices approaching $3.00 per gallon.

I paid about $2,000 more for the hybrid version of the Camry than I would have paid for the regular version. The difference in list prices was more than $2,000, but I was able to negotiate a good deal. I also received federal and state tax benefits worth $1,250 to offset the extra cost (however, the tax benefits are currently expired). As hybrids are produced in higher volume, the cost differential should be reduced.

The first thing I noticed about my hybrid is how quiet it is at start-up. A hybrid is quiet at start-up because it runs on battery power at low speeds. The gas engine and battery work as a team so that the battery recharges whenever I take my foot off the gas or use the brakes. This is perfect for my bumper-to-bumper morning commute.

The next thing I noticed was that gas stations were becoming a distant memory between fill-ups. I used to watch my gas gauge like a hawk every day out of necessity. Now, I really have to go out of my way to remember to check. I'm currently getting about 37 MPG.

The maintenance on my hybrid has been minimal. I am following Toyota's recommended maintenance schedule of every 5,000 miles. I have had two maintenance services and I am due for my 15,000 mile service soon. The first service was just an oil and oil filter change. The 10,000 mile service included oil and oil filter change, tire rotation, lubrication, brake inspection and fluid top offs at a cost of $84.75.

What I really like about this hybrid is that people ask me questions about it. My neighbors checked it out the night I brought it home and they were immediately interested in shopping for a hybrid. One of my co-workers was inspired to buy a Honda Civic hybrid. He used to drive an SUV getting about 7 m.p.g. but now he's getting about 45 m.p.g. Do the math!

So there's just a couple reason why you might want to consider buying a hybrid as your next car. Hybrid doesn't mean you have to go small like a compact or mini-car. There are also hybrid SUVs available to those with larger families, heck, there's even hybrid trucks available too. Best thing you can do is research the technology out there.
